As some of you know, the PCM on my pt cruiser is broken, and it’ll be $700+ for a new unit and a vin-specific reflash. Well, some eBay !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! sell you a remanufactured PCM for $150 and do the reflash. I thought only dealers could do a reflash?
I mean, it seems sketchy because I thought only dealers had the proper equipment. If true, that’s a heck of a savings. Of course, the link I gave has the wrong year, so I’d have to find an ‘08 one.
Thoughts oppo? Pros and cons of maybe doing it through eBay instead of a dealer? Thanks!

the way some people can manipulate electronics these days , you’ll be amazed what they can actually do.
it’s worth the punt tbh.

I just really don’t want it to be a scam and be out a PCM. We are thinking of selling the car, and no PCM will be a hit to the amount we can get for it if we do sell it.

$700 is dangerously close to ‘craiglslist beater’ territory. It might be time to consider another car.

I very strongly encourage you go to the neons.org forum and inquire about flashing the PCM there. There are users who can certainly help you, probably for cheap and definitely for real. I would trust them before ebay every day of the week, and would 100% trust them if they pointed you towards a specific ebay listing.
A PT is just a bigger Neon, don’t forget. Many users there are fantastic people and very willing to help.

We’re trying to get it working with the possibility to sell. A non working car isn't worth the price of a working one. A working one is worth maybe $2k, in pristine condition.

What’s the seller feedback rating? I’d go the route JGrabowMSt suggested. You could also search google for something like “pcm reflash scam” or something.

As long as the seller is a legit company and has good reviews go for it. I had the PCM on my F150 crap out on me and I bought one on ebay for ~$150 with a lifetime warranty from the company, they flash software based on your VIN#. It was plug and play for me. (you could also check Rock Auto, they had PCMs for my truck too but were in the $300 range if I remember right)
